Egypt is set to modernize its airport entry procedures with the launch of a new digital visa-on-arrival system at Cairo International Airport beginning in August 2026. The initiative will initially roll out across all airport terminals in Cairo before gradually expanding to other airports nationwide.
Under the new system, eligible travelers will be able to complete their visa-on-arrival process electronically through the platform’s official website or self-service kiosks located inside the airport terminals. Visa and service fees will be paid digitally before travelers receive a QR code, which will function as an electronic visa stamp upon arrival.
At passport control, immigration officers will scan the QR code to verify traveler information and visa validity, helping reduce waiting times and streamline airport procedures. The move forms part of Egypt’s broader digital transformation strategy aimed at improving the overall visitor experience while reducing congestion at major travel hubs.
The initiative also supports wider airport modernization efforts already underway across Egypt, including digital passenger documentation systems, smart airport technologies, baggage tracking solutions, artificial intelligence applications, and enhanced cybersecurity infrastructure.
The launch reflects Egypt’s continued investment in tourism infrastructure and its commitment to creating smoother, more efficient travel experiences for international visitors.
