Few concert venues can rival the atmosphere of Cairo’s historic Citadel.
From 15 to 24 August 2026, the 34th Citadel International Festival for Music and Singing returns to the Mahka Theatre, bringing ten evenings of live performances to one of Egypt’s most iconic landmarks. Organised by the Cairo Opera House, the festival has become one of the country’s most anticipated cultural celebrations, attracting audiences with its unique blend of music, heritage and accessible ticket prices.
This year’s programme will feature more than 20 performances, spanning Arabic music, classical concerts, jazz, international acts and emerging artists, alongside renowned performers from Egypt and across the Arab world. Continuing its long-standing “Art for All” philosophy, the festival is designed to welcome audiences of all ages and musical tastes.
Ahead of the opening, the Mahka Theatre has undergone extensive technical upgrades, including new sound and lighting systems, giant LED screens and enhanced audience facilities. Visitors will also benefit from electric shuttle vehicles connecting the Citadel entrances with the theatre, along with improved visitor services throughout the venue.
Set against the magnificent backdrop of the Citadel of Saladin, the festival offers more than a concert programme—it provides an opportunity to experience Cairo’s rich cultural life within one of its most significant historic landmarks. As the sun sets over the city, music fills the centuries-old fortress, creating an atmosphere that has made the Citadel Festival a cherished tradition for more than three decades.
Whether discovering Egyptian music for the first time or returning to a much-loved annual event, the festival remains one of the highlights of Cairo’s cultural calendar.
