Arriving in Egypt is becoming faster, easier and more convenient.
From 1 August 2026, Egypt has begun the pilot operation of its new digital Visa-on-Arrival system at Cairo International Airport, marking another milestone in the country’s ongoing digital transformation and commitment to enhancing the visitor experience.
The new system replaces the traditional paper visa sticker with a digital QR code, allowing eligible international travellers to complete their visa process before arrival, during their flight or immediately upon landing. Once issued, the QR code enables passengers to proceed directly to passport control, helping reduce queues and streamline the arrival process.
The QR code remains valid for seven days from the date of issuance, providing greater flexibility for visitors planning their journey. The platform also allows accredited travel companies to issue QR codes on behalf of organised tourist groups, making arrivals more efficient.
During the pilot phase, the digital system will operate alongside the existing paper Visa-on-Arrival process to ensure a smooth transition before the service is gradually expanded to additional airports and ports of entry across Egypt.
As Egypt continues investing in digital services and visitor infrastructure, initiatives such as the digital Visa-on-Arrival reflect the country’s commitment to creating a more seamless travel experience from the very first step of every journey.
