Traveling to Egypt just got even easier! Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, has announced that the pilot phase of a new visa-on-arrival system will roll out at Cairo International Airport starting mid-June 2025.
The new system is designed to simplify the arrival process for international visitors and enhance the overall tourism experience. It will allow travelers to obtain emergency visas upon arrival using a QR code, with payment processed electronically at self-service kiosks in the airport terminals or through a dedicated mobile app. The initiative aims to reduce congestion at arrival areas and streamline entry procedures as Egypt continues to attract more tourists.
This is part of Egypt’s larger strategy to modernize its tourism infrastructure and reach a target of 30 million visitors by 2028. In 2024, Egypt welcomed 15.7 million tourists, generating $14.1 billion in revenue — surpassing previous records.
Authorities will closely monitor the pilot phase before expanding the new system to all Egyptian airports. This comes on the heels of other traveler-friendly initiatives, such as the extension of the country’s free 96-hour transit visa through April 2026.
With this new visa-on-arrival system, exploring Egypt’s rich history and world-famous attractions is becoming more seamless than ever for international travelers!
