The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) continues to strengthen Egypt’s position as one of the world’s leading cultural tourism destinations, welcoming more than three million visitors during the seven months ending in June 2026.
According to GEM CEO Ahmed Ghoneim, international visitors accounted for approximately 60% of total attendance, while Egyptian visitors represented the remaining 40%, reflecting the museum’s strong global appeal since its official opening.
The museum currently welcomes between 7,000 and 10,000 visitors daily, with visitor numbers carefully managed through a daily capacity limit of 15,000 guests to help preserve the quality of the visitor experience. The approach reflects GEM’s commitment to offering visitors a comfortable and immersive journey through one of the world’s largest archaeological museums.
Home to an unparalleled collection celebrating over 5,000 years of ancient Egyptian civilization—including the complete treasures of Tutankhamun displayed together for the first time—the Grand Egyptian Museum has quickly established itself as one of the country’s must-visit attractions and a cornerstone of Egypt’s cultural tourism offering.
The milestone further demonstrates the international demand for Egypt’s rich heritage and reinforces the Grand Egyptian Museum’s role in attracting travellers from around the world. For tour operators and travel advisors, the museum continues to be an essential highlight of any itinerary to Cairo, offering clients an extraordinary gateway into the story of ancient Egypt.
