Several historic valleys in Egypt’s Saint Catherine region have reopened to tourists after a decade-long closure aimed at protecting the fragile mountain ecosystem. As of July 12, visitors can now explore sites like Wadi Sheikh Awad, Gebel al-Arba‘een, and Al-Seba‘iya for safaris and camping. The move supports efforts to revive Saint Catherine as a leading destination for eco, spiritual, and adventure tourism, in line with the ongoing “Great Transfiguration” project, which includes new infrastructure, lodging, and airport development to attract up to one million visitors annually.
