Sharm El-Sheikh has received a Certificate of Merit in the 2026 World Green City Awards, organised by the International Association of Horticultural Producers. The recognition was awarded for an initiative addressing species and habitat loss, ecosystem health and genetic diversity under the Green Sharm project. The project supports the transition towards green tourism by integrating environmental considerations into urban planning, promoting sustainable practices and protecting natural resources, including the area’s coral reefs, seagrass meadows and wildlife habitats.
