The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has achieved a major sustainability milestone, earning official accreditation for its greenhouse gas emissions report from the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) in collaboration with the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC). This recognition underscores Egypt’s dedication to environmental responsibility in its landmark cultural projects. As the first museum in Africa and the Middle East to obtain the “EDGE Advance” green building certification, GEM stands as a global model of sustainable heritage preservation. Set to open on November 1, the museum will showcase the world’s most extensive collection dedicated to ancient Egyptian civilization, including the complete treasures of King Tutankhamun, monumental artefacts displayed along the Grand Staircase, and the iconic Ramses II colossus.
