Egypt’s Ministry of Local Development and Ministry of Environment have announced ten new measures to reduce plastic pollution nationwide, aiming to protect the country’s land, coastlines, and marine ecosystems. The initiatives include stricter enforcement of regulations on single-use plastic bags, new manufacturing standards to promote reusable plastics, and greater accountability for producers to collect and recycle packaging waste. The plan also introduces eco-friendly alternatives in major Red Sea destinations such as Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada, expands smart recycling technologies, and strengthens international partnerships to support sustainable waste management and long-term protection of Egypt’s marine environments.
