In a major step toward sustainable urban transport, Egypt is accelerating the development of its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project along Greater Cairo’s Ring Road, aiming to complete the first two phases before the Grand Egyptian Museum’s inauguration on 3 July. Designed to reduce congestion and pollution, the BRT system will replace microbuses with 100 locally manufactured electric buses, each capable of transporting up to 66 passengers. Once completed, the three-phase project will include 48 stations and seamless integration with metro and light rail networks, supporting Egypt’s broader efforts to promote clean energy, reduce emissions, and encourage public over private transportation. The initiative reflects the country’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure and modern, environmentally responsible mobility solutions.
